Meghan McCain brought to tears during anti-Semitism debate
The View co-host Meghan McCain was brought to tears on Thursday’s show, while discussing Rep. Ilhan Omar (DFL-MN) being accused of using anti-Semitic tropes.
McCain began to tear up when she mentioned former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman and his wife Hadassah Lieberman as being “like family,” and then ramped up her passion from there.
“I take the hate crimes rising in this country incredibly seriously and I think what’s happening in Europe is really scary,” McCain said. “On both sides it should be called out. And just because I don’t technically have Jewish family that are blood-related to me doesn’t mean that I don’t take this seriously and it is very dangerous, very dangerous… what Ilhan Omar is saying is very scary to me.”
The nearly 10-minute discussion ended with co-host Sunny Hostin calling for action on both sides.
“I’m tired of the selective outrage, and I hope that we have a joint resolution from the Republicans and from the Democrats,” Hostin said.
Some viewers on Twitter supported Meghan and fellow co-host Joy Behar, who was in agreement.
While the “joint resolution” being called for by Hostin may or may not happen in Congress, Behar found a way to use it as the perfect segue to a commercial break.
“Speaking of joints,” she said, “I wish I had one right now.”
